NYCY integrates a concentric copper conductor around PVC-insulated cores for defined protective, neutral or screening functions.
NYCY places copper wires and tape concentrically around the insulated cable core, providing an additional metallic conductor within the same cable construction. Where the network design calls for that conductor function, the concentric layer can be specified together with the main cores rather than added as a separate parallel cable. Its cross-section remains part of the electrical design.
Combining the main insulated cores and the concentric copper layer inside one outer sheath can simplify service entrances and fixed distribution feeders. Fewer separate cable runs mean less route coordination and fewer independent components to manage along the same path. The benefit is most useful where the network design already requires the concentric conductor as part of the feeder.
The concentric copper layer must be treated as an intentional part of the termination, not as spare metallic material around the cable. Its cross-section, breakout and connection arrangement should be considered together with the main cores, gland and enclosure space. Planning this before installation reduces improvised treatment of the concentric wires at service entrances and distribution equipment.
